In 1582 Edward Kelly, a channeler and some say a charlatan, claimed he received the Enochian alphabet during a session with pal John Dee. Kelly says he was told this was the language of the Angels before the fall of humankind and the Tower of Babel. They worked the alphabet into a complex magick system that became popular with the 19th century occultists, including Aleister Crowley, and it continues to be used/practiced today.
